Severoalichur Gr

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Cryogenian – Ediacaran (Rf? Sal), M1-M3d

Province:
SE Tajik (SE Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

Includes in SE Murghab district (Mynkhadjr type), SE Murghab district (Istyk type (Dunkeldyk area), SE Murghab district (Gurdumdin type), SE Murghab district (Gurdumdin type Kastanatdjilga, Buryukurmes rivers), SE Murghab district (Gurdumdin type Shin and Igrymiyu rivers), SE Murghab district (Gurdumdin type Gurumd and Kattamardzhana rivers).

Metamorphosed in greenschist facies deposits, established in 1967 by V. I. Dronov in the eastern part of the Pshartsky ridge, are also conditionally referred to the Severoalichur Gr. The name is Russian for North Alichur. It is also conditionally referred to the Severoalichurskaya series.

Synonym: North Alichur Gr, North Alichur series, Severoalichurskaya series

Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of greenish-gray chlorite-sericite schists and quartzitic sandstones containing layers of marbled limestones and metadiabases. The incomplete thickness is 1000 m.

In the upper reaches of the rivers Southern Gumbezkol, Muzdubulak, Nitchkedzhilga, and Kultchak, they have the following structure. At the base, there lies a 500-meter-thick layer of greenish-gray and gray quartz and quartz-feldspar sandstones, quartzites, and slates with interlayers of greenstone-altered basic volcanic rocks. Above, conformably lies a layer (300 m) of greenstone-altered, disintegrated basic volcanic rocks with interlayers and lenses of light gray marbleized limestones and marbles. They are conformably overlain by a layer (800 m) of gray and greenish-gray quartz and quartz-feldspar sandstones and quartz-chlorite-sericite slates with interlayers of greenstone-altered volcanic rocks, marbles, and marbleized limestones. The section is completed by a conformably lying layer (400 m) of light gray quartz sandstones and quartzites with interlayers of mica slates. The total thickness is 2000 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The bottom of the series is nowhere. The contacts with the surrounding rocks are tectonic.

Upper contact

The upper layers are not exposed, being overlain with an angular unconformity by Triassic or Jurassic deposits. In the upper reaches of the river Kattamarjana and the valley of the river Zurchertseck, the Severoalichur Gr is overlain with an angular unconformity, according to V. I. Dronov, to the base of the lower coal-bearing?-- lower Permian Bazardarin Gr (V. P. Novikov believes that the layer of siltstones with basal conglomerates, exposed in the valley of the river Zurchertseck, has Triassic or Jurassic age).

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Southeastern Pamir, in the North Alichur range, where it is exposed in separate small outcrops.
